Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning

Although yes, I did play on this album, that is NOT why I chose it! It is an album full of mystery and imagination, melody and sonic adventure. There is real inspiration to be found and the best music happens when one can tap into the muse like Steven Wilson.

About time one of the three showed some love to Symphony X!

    • Mike Stringfellow

      They did tour with them…

  • Nubnut

I have to say, I’m really glad to see Heritage in the top 3 for all of them.

    • Gil Sorger

I’ve never liked Opeth, due to the vocalization, but Heritage was a very pleasant surprise. For me is the best album of the year. Excelent musicians, sound, music and voice. From now on I’m an Opeth fan.

I guess he showed Michael Pinnella some tricks for Symphony X new album as well! xP

  • C.J. Hayes

Yeah, Heritage was a bold venture for Opeth, and a great homage to the genre that influenced Akerfeldt.

Already had the top two, time to check out the others – thanks for the list, Jordan.

  • ZiltoidTheOmniscient

Grace for Drowning was definitely the best album of 2011.

Have to say that I love all music where Jordan Plays From Encore,Legends & Paradox to other progects! He fills it with amazing mood & chemistry (as any other member of DTin other projects), so I’m trying to get all projects where members of DT took (& take)the parts! Thak you for List Jordan! I love you) Thank you ALL DT!

  • Erik L

    Beardfish FTW!

    • http://nn-no.facebook.com/Alekksi Aleksander Engelen Næs

That band is severely underrated. Beardfish and Spock’s Beard are by my taste the best present pure-prog rock bands.

      • Vik7u

        agreed!

      • http://www.facebook.com/thomas.dobbins Thomas Dobbins

        Ditto!

  • Meineanfrage

    Opeth Heritage ??
    A Joke ??

    • AvrooK

you don’t like it it doesn’t mean that whole world shouldn’t like it too..

  • http://nn-no.facebook.com/Alekksi Aleksander Engelen Næs

Jordan, you surely do have exquisite taste in music!

  • http://nn-no.facebook.com/Alekksi Aleksander Engelen Næs

Radiohead, Steven Wilson, Opeth, Devin Townsend and Beardfish represent almost everything I listen to for the time being, haha.

  • Spreadingmusic

graveyard – Hisingen Blues… guys?? where is it?

    • Ulle

maybe jordan didn´t like the 70s soundslike? but i agree with you graveyard is a very good band. like witchcraft and many other new bands.

  • Rob25

Nobody seems to ever list Redemption and I can’t understand me?

    • http://www.facebook.com/nicolae.mihai1 Nicolae Mihai

      Very correct observation? Why?

  • DCVision Music

I’m also glad to see the love for Symphony X!! Jordan is definitely the creme de le creme of keyboardists. When you get to that level of understanding and musicianship, it’s useless to say that someone is better than someone else. It’s just a matter of how much you like their music. I consider Jordan to be the most amazing keyboard player I’ve ever seen. But, I’ve got his whole discography, and frankly, I’m not a real fan of his solo stuff. With DT, amazing stuff!!!

  • Claptonandslash

    Devin Townsend! Hell yes!

  • Vik7u

BEARDFISH!! glad someone picked mammoth. also props to JM for picking yes fly from here.

  • tom

I agree with Grace for Drowning Jordan. It’s truly one of the most imaginative of SW’s carrer and for you to be a part of it was the icing! Great LP.

  • TheProgFather

The best list out of the 3, but it’s missing Visions by Haken. If anyone hasn’t heard that masterpiece, they should listen to it immediately. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfbvwMpIAKg

  • Papa Smurph

I liked John Myung’s favorites, and I like yours too. I own 9, 2 and 1 already, and I’ve heard a lot of good things about 10. I was a bit surprised about 9, that I like very much (I like pretty much everything SX has released very much).

  • Expojeff

The Aristocrats also made my list too!

  • ne

    symphony x! Great album

  • Abel_adames

a true fan of the modern prog fan Mr. Jordan.
