This record is unreal. Un-fucking-believable album. SO inspiring. Goosebumps throughout. The passion, the vocal harmonies, the lyrics, SO meaningful and real. Songs about LOVE on a metal record... and they're great??!! Crazy! And when it's pissed, man, look out. What I've always loved about Jesse Leach's voice is that it sounds like dude has PROBLEMS!! And I relate. I was really disappointed with where music was going when this came out...and this record literally saved me.

Could this be considered a cheat since the music on it was recorded in 2004 and 2008? Fuck you! For years I've wanted to grab a portable turntable and run off to the woods to play The White EP on vinyl and this year Agalloch gave me that chance.
Not only is The White EP my favourite Spring album, but The Mantle is my favourite Winter album, so the selections from it found on The Grey EP are definitely welcome. I picked this up at the band's show earlier this year and love everything from the packaging to the music. Good luck getting yourself a copy, though...
Agalloch are simply one of my generation's best metal bands. Any chance to introduce them to new listeners is a chance I will gladly take.

Unfortunately this guy beat out everyone including the English gal with the amazing voice. Even though he apes Madonna in every sense and dresses up like a woman, and in this picture a motorcycle, he manages to acquire the most shock and awe and still sell records, write hit songs and sell out arenas worldwide. Very impressive. He's even kinda hot, wait...what?...It's a chick...Oh....shit...maybe I should have just picked the Foo Fighters like everyone else. and the Grammy goes to...hmm, I wonder.

JD Allen Trio - Victory!
This jazz album was probably the disc I listened to most this year. Allen's a tenor saxophonist who writes extraordinarily concise compositions - this album has 12 tracks and is only 36 minutes long, but there are tons of melodies that will stick in your head once you hear them, which isn't as common in jazz as you might like to think.
